Red Wing Sizing Guide
Getting the right size in Red Wing boots is one of the most important steps to enjoying them for years to come. Unlike regular footwear, Red Wing boots are built on specific lasts — shaped forms that determine the fit, volume and feel of each model. At Sir James Roermond, we help customers across the Netherlands find their perfect Red Wing fit every day. Here’s everything you need to know.
Understanding Red Wing Lasts
A last is the foot-shaped mould around which a boot is constructed. Different Red Wing models use different lasts, which means sizing can vary between styles.
Last 8 — Iron Ranger, Blacksmith
A narrower, more tapered last with a lower volume. If you have narrow to medium feet, this last often fits true to size. Those with wider feet may need to size up or choose EE width.
Last 23 — Moc Toe (875, 877)
A rounder, higher-volume last that suits wider feet well. Many customers find they can size down half a size on this last, especially if they have narrow feet.
Last 55 — Classic Oxford, Postman
A more refined, lower-profile last suited to everyday wear. Generally fits true to size in D width.
Red Wing Width Options
Most Red Wing boots are available in multiple widths. The standard options are:
B (Narrow) — for slim feet
D (Standard) — the default width for most models
EE (Wide) — for broader feet or those who prefer more volume
If you’re between sizes or have wide feet, we always recommend trying in-store. Visit us at Neerstraat 66, Roermond, Limburg.
How to Measure Your Foot
For the most accurate sizing, measure your foot at the end of the day when it is at its largest. Stand on a piece of paper, trace around your foot and measure the longest point from heel to toe. Compare this to Red Wing’s official size chart, which we can provide in-store.
Sizing Tips by Model
Iron Ranger
Size true to your Brannock size in D width. If you have wide feet, go EE. The boot will loosen slightly during break-in.
Moc Toe
Consider sizing down half a size if you have narrow feet. The round toe box gives extra volume.
Beckman
Fits true to size. A more refined fit than the Iron Ranger.
Break-In and Fit
Red Wing boots are made from thick, full-grain leather that requires a break-in period. A boot that feels slightly snug at first will often mould perfectly to your foot after 2–4 weeks of regular wear. Do not size up just because of initial stiffness — this is normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Red Wing boots run true to size?
Generally yes, but it depends on the last. The Iron Ranger (Last 8) tends to run true, while the Moc Toe (Last 23) can run slightly large due to its rounder toe box.
Should I size up or down in Red Wing?
This depends on the model and your foot shape. We recommend visiting us in-store in Roermond for a proper fitting, or contacting us for advice.
Are Red Wing boots available in wide widths?
Yes — most models are available in EE (wide) width. Contact us to check availability for your size.
Can I order a specific size not visible in the webshop?
Yes — we may have it in stock but not yet listed. We order Red Wing regularly for customers. Get in touch.
