18th century longcase clock from the English clockmaker William Mercer of Liverpool.The clock is from circa 1740 and is in fully working condition, it is an eight day clock which means that it only requires winding once a week. The intricate details and moon phase and date wheel were very rare so it is clear that this clock was bespoke built for a wealthy customer.
William Mercer died in 1754, he is to be found in old documents from that period.
He was renowned for the quality of his workmanship and chosen materials, from the brass face to the selection of wood. These clocks were made for country and city houses and can be found in museums across the United Kingdom.
